Sunday is the last day of our summer sermon series, "Hey! I Have a Question!" where we have been answering the questions that our church is asking. On Sunday, Cor (Downtown) and Brian (Lowertown) will talk about the question "What steps is Hope taking in response to Gospel & Race conversations of the past?" We would love for you to join us. The season is busy, and there is a lot to do. We know that the fall can mean things are ramping up, and it can be hard to fit everything in. New service times for Lowertown start this Sunday, August 25th! Instead of meeting at 6 PM, Lowertown is going to switch to the morning and begin their service at 8:45 AM.
You can't have a picnic without food - that would be silly. Thankfully, we thought about that! When your stomach starts to growl right after church and you're on your way to the Kickoff, look for the sign that says "FOOD!" and some awesome people from Hope Community Church Lowertown who are grilling up something delicious. It's easy to feel disconnected and we all feel that at times. Whether you've been at Hope for years or this is your first time coming, we all come into the fall season feeling at least a little disconnected from each other. Sometimes at Hope you'll hear us say, "we take the Gospel seriously, but we try not to take ourselves too seriously." What we mean by that is that the Gospel is important to us, but not because it's about us, but because it's about Jesus and what he did for us. So, since we aren't too worried about looking kinda silly, we are excited for the inflatable bouncy house that will be at the Kickoff! on September 8th! Scripture describes the value of community over and over. Admonishing one another, grieving and mourning together, laughing and celebrating together, and pointing one another toward Christ. At Hope, we want people to be in community because we know that it's hard on your own. On September 8th, come celebrate with Hope as we welcome people into our community through baptism, and then we party with them after! From games, to food, to inflatable bouncy houses, we think it should be pretty fun! #hopekickoff

A small group that likes to call themselves "Rage City" had their second annual camping trip last month to focus on growing their community! Here's what one of the leaders, Kyle Fast, had to say about the trip: "We chose one of the hottest days of the year, got bit by a million mosquitoes, 'tried' to sleep in 100% humidity, got washed out by torrential rains and had to finish the rest of the weekend back in the Cities. Was it worth it? You betcha! I couldn't ask for a better group of people to share memories with and figure out this whole life thing." Hope Kickoff! is coming up, and although we will have lots of fun activities, what we are really excited for is to celebrate baptisms! If you have never been baptized, here are 8 quick reasons to consider being baptized on Sept. 8th: 1. Because you haven't been. 2. Because Jesus commanded it. 3. Because you DON'T have to. 4. Because you believe in Jesus. 5. Because you want to tell the church. 6. Because you want to tell others not in the church. 7. Because you proclaim your union with Jesus. 8. It's been exciting to see what different small groups have been doing this summer to deepen their community and grow together! One small group, with leaders Jairus, Jordan, Joanna, and Heather, decided to get together at a board games place called Fantasy Flight Games for a game night! Women at Hope exists in order to help the women in our church grow, and we believe that this is done through community and by challenging and encouraging one another in our personal walk with The Lord. We make sure not to take ourselves too seriously and we love to have a lot of fun.
